The winners of Prix Galien Canada 2012

Toronto, November 14th 2012

Over 400 people gathered at the Concert Hall of Royal York Hotel in Toronto to celebrate the pharmaceutical research during the awarding ceremony of Prix Galien Canada.

The award winners are:

  • Best Pharmaceutical Product: For the first time since its inception, Prix Galien Canada awarded in two different pharmaceutical companies who have developed the first two direct acting antivirals formulations available in Canada for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C.
    Incivek® (telaprevir) / Vertex Pharmaceuticals Ltd and
    Victrelis® (boceprivir) / Merck Canada
  • Best Research Project: Dr. Robert EW Hancock, Professor of Microbiology and Immunology, University of British Columbia and a Canada Research Chair holder.
  • Pro Bono Humanum: Dr. Charles Scriver and Mr. Arnold Steinberg shared the Pro Bono Humanum award to whom was awarded for their outstanding contribution to health sciences. They worked together successfully to ensure the addition of vitamin D to milk in Quebec, minimizing the occurrence of rickets in children.
